PSP Games That Deserve a Modern Remake

Though the PlayStation Portable was discontinued years ago, its best games still linger in the minds of fans—and for good reason. Many of these PSP games were ahead of their time in both storytelling and gameplay. As the industry continues to revisit classic titles with remakes and remasters, there’s a strong case to be made for several PSP gems to make a comeback.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII was one of the PSP’s most acclaimed titles, offering a compelling prequel to the original Final Fantasy VII. Its fast-paced battle system, emotional story koko138 centered around Zack Fair, and beautifully animated cutscenes pushed the PSP to its limits. While a remaster (Crisis Core: Reunion) has already come to modern platforms, fans are still hopeful for a fully reimagined remake that brings it visually and mechanically in line with the FFVII Remake series.

Another prime candidate for a remake is Daxter, the spin-off from the Jak and Daxter franchise. This standalone platformer not only featured great level design and humor but also was technically impressive for its time. A remake with enhanced visuals, reworked controls, and new levels could breathe life back into this beloved sidekick’s solo adventure.

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together is often cited as one of the best strategy RPGs ever made. Its PSP version offered new story content, rebalanced gameplay, and updated visuals. With modern turn-based tactics games finding new audiences, a full-scale remake would be the perfect way to reintroduce this classic to players unfamiliar with its deep narrative and strategic depth.

Patapon, with its unique rhythm-based gameplay, is another game screaming for a modern update. Its charming 2D art style, catchy music, and strategic depth made it a cult classic. A remake could include expanded multiplayer features, a richer soundtrack, and updated visuals while keeping its quirky charm intact.

The PSP catalog is full of hidden gems that were constrained only by the hardware of their time. With today’s consoles capable of extraordinary things, these games deserve to be reborn and reintroduced to players who may have missed them the first time around.
